Recently, the phase summary meeting of the Guangdong Shunde District Jun'an Town Spark Project for eliminating the hazards of viral hepatitis was held. The meeting brought together representatives from the China Hepatitis Foundation, the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Guangdong provincial and municipal disease prevention and control centers, health departments, and relevant medical institutions to summarize the experience of eliminating the hazards of hepatitis under the Spark Project and explore how to replicate and promote it nationwide.

During the meeting, Wang Wenquan, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Jun'an Hospital, which implemented the project, introduced that the prevalence of viral hepatitis is one of the important global public health issues and is also the most commonly reported Class B infectious disease in China. There are many infected people and it is difficult to prevent and treat them. Since the launch of the project, over 80,000 screenings have been completed, more than 30,000 doses of hepatitis B vaccine have been administered, and standardized diagnosis and treatment have been provided to hepatitis patients. The proactive prevention and control strategy of "conduct screening, provide vaccination, conduct treatment, and integrate medical and health care for prevention and control" has achieved remarkable results in Jun'an, aiming to reduce the new infection rates of hepatitis B and C by 90% within three years.

Where is the core innovative point of Jun'an Model for virus hepatitis prevention and control? Wang Wenquan believes that Jun'an has innovatively explored a new model called "Dual Universal (universal population survey, universal patient treatment), Dual Free (three free tests, initial free vaccination), and Dual Integration (integration of medical treatment and prevention)".

In specific operations, residents can enjoy services right at their doorsteps, needing only "a drop of blood and 15 minutes of waiting" to receive initial screening results via SMS. If the hepatitis B antibody is negative, free vaccinations are administered on-site, while if the results show positive for hepatitis B surface antigen or hepatitis C antibody, liver disease experts are available on-site to provide diagnoses for residents.

In view of Jun'an Town's exploration, Lin Zhixiang, Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, stated that "based on the pilot projects in Jun'an, Shunde, and Huazhou, Maoming, we plan to further promote early prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis in key cities and counties to reduce the prevalence and disease burden of hepatitis B and C."

As one of the initiators and participants in the Spark Project, Lin Bingliang, Director of the Infectious Diseases Department at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, believes that in the "Jun'an Pathway" for the prevention and control of viral hepatitis, the construction of the closely-knit vertical medical consortium in Jun'an is an important aspect that cannot be ignored.
